Guerlain was founded in 1828 by scientist Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain. At the age of 19, Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain began working as a "merchant clerk" at Briard, a manufacturer and retailer in perfumery, before joining the Dissey and Piver companies where he strengthened his knowledge. After some time Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain left for England to study chemistry, and perfect his knowledge of botany and molecules. He then returned to France to put his knowledge into practice and open his very first perfume shop on rue de Rivoli in Paris.

Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain first started by making make-up and skincare products. It introduces the first solid blush presented in a porcelain pot. In 1836, he launched one of the first lipsticks called Automatisme. In the same year, he offered his first eau de toilette as S enteurs des Champs or even Bouquet du Jardin du Roi. What marked his career the most was the Eau de Cologne Impérial, intended for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, thanks to which he obtained the patent of "Royal Supplier to his Majesty".< em>

After the death of Pierre-François, his son Aimé Guerlain took up the torch by offering new fragrances that had become symbolic, such as Jicky in 1889, the first perfume composed of a synthetic product. Then in turn Jacques Guerlain continued the adventure of his predecessors by offering other cheap perfumes which their turn marked the history of the Guerlain house. IN 1994, the family business was bought by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy). Guerlain is known as a brand representing luxury, royalty, tradition and passion through the ages, without ever losing its prestige. The brand's great classics such as Shalimar are timeless, and sit elegantly alongside novelties such as the Petite Robe Noire.
