Are fragrances primarily enjoyed and worn by a female audience? No, and have been for centuries.

The male perfume has its origins in antiquity. It takes its name from the Latin word per fumum (by smoke). At that time aromatic herbs, balsams and resins were burned as gifts for the gods, but also for medicinal purposes. The aroma of certain plants having curative effects, thus making it possible to cure diseases more quickly.

In the Middle Ages, some people had the idea of using elements such as plants, amber or musk to create pomanders , small nomadic balls carried by the rich in which there are plants, this in order to protect them from raging epidemics.

During the Age of Enlightenment, great personalities such as Louis XIV immersed themselves in perfumes to cover their body odor, as baths were not usually daily at that time even for the nobles.

It was not until around 1930 that the first men's perfume appeared, with the famous Pour un Homme by Caron. Thenew men's fragrancewas born. Until then, Monsieur borrowed the
eau de colognede Madame and the eau de toilette is often unisex. The very first masculine fragrances revolved around notes of lavender and vetiver. Over time, other eau de toilette appeared, accompanied by brand new scents that can be classified into several olfactory families different from those for womens-perfume.

- Aromatic Men's Perfume: Mainly composed of aromas of lavender, sage, thyme or rosemary, accompanied by notes of citrus fruits or spices. It is a virile olfactory family, exclusive to men, in which there are toilet waters such as Acqua di Gio by Armani, Kenzo Homme, Hugo Boss Bottled or Dolce & Gabbana for men.

- Masculine Perfume Citrus: their compositions revolve around citrus notes (lemon, orange, bergamot, tangerine, grapefruit, ...). What gives this olfactory family its masculine side are the aromatic or spicy notes found in certain eaux de toilette such as
Eau Sauvage de Dior or Chrome from Azzaro.

- Oriental Men's Perfume: Drawing their essences from amber, resin, spices or exotic woods. Oriental masculine perfumes are often refreshed with citrus notes. We find in this category Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier, Body Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent, Habit Rouge by Guerlain or even A
Men by Mugler, and many more.

- Woody Men's Fragrance: Masculine woody eaux de toilette are scents with a warm character. Their scents are based on notes of cedar wood, vetiver or even sandalwood, usually accompanied by a touch of freshness. Here we find 1 Million by Paco Rabanne, 1881 Homme by Cerruti, Lacoste pour Homme or Vétiver by Guerlain.

These days, men wear perfume more and more. And seeing the success of eau de toilette for men soaring, the big perfume houses are now also producing their eau de parfum for men. Much more concentrated than eaux de toilette or colognes, they smell stronger and last longer on skin and clothes.

A question though. Burn our lips? What is the best men's perfume? The best men's fragrance is the one that suits us best, the scent that we love above all else and that we take pleasure in perfuming ourselves with every day.
